I understand it's important not to rush a good thing. But beyond speculation of 2009. Have there been any dates being pushed around by legitimate sources. I am a film student that has held out purchasing other cameras for this one specifically, Because i have faith in RED. But i was just wondering beyond speculation..... When are things rolling? As far as When can you start placing orders? And When will things ship? Anyhow nothing but love and Respect for a visionary company. It's a long ways but well worth the weight.

We can place orders at the time of the camera release.
Early 2009 should be early 2009 I guess and that means hopefully February/Mars 2009 (because Januari should mean "start of 2009" and later would mean "spring 2009")

    Those are my guesses

I would be shocked if it were released before NAB.

They say early 2009 so either before or right after NAB. I am guessing if they are ready a week before NAB they might hold off until they get back from NAB just because of all the staff that go to NAB they probably would not want to leave them short handed at that time. Though this is pure speculation and the reality is I will be happy if I get it by summer 2009.

Speculation is ALL you're going to get. Don't hold your breath................. I would speculate (myself) that its actual release is at least a year from now. That's a looooooong time to wait for a cam. Best find something in the mean time.

The HVX is a very good cam and can be bought/sold with little loss if you're a smart buyer. I actually made a few $'s on the one I bought/sold.

Time and speculation about Scarlet may render some people insane. Especially since it was only about 15 days ago we found out that Scarlet may take a year to come out. And a year is a long time to be thinking about something.
A lot of people are buying a camera to use NOW and start saving to get Scarlet NEXT YEAR. If you purchase a camera now and put it to good use you will get back at least $3K by this time next year and have a heck of a lot more experience shooting.

I believe ted mentioned in one of the videos they were shooting for january. I think scarlet is going to give you all something you just could never have afforded. you get a 2/3 sensor , a great lens , it does timelapse , undercrank and over crank , great dynamic range, records to solid state, records audio, and it'll let you do fantastic colour work with all the extra resolution and raw workflow. as much as I think the RED ONE is a revolution scarlet is real the kicker. I don't think anybody will bother shooting on anything but scarlet and up when its released.

god its not so long ago we were all killing ourselves dealing with 4:2:0 and how that wasn't great for colour work and how we couldn't really under or overcrank until the hvx200 and that was almost 7k and even on the f900 I shot with it wasn't cheap and it wasn't even full raster it was 1440 x 1080 with 3:1:1 and cost 85k and then you had to get access to a deck and ingest workstation, scarlet its basically an f23 with a fixed lens for 3 freaking k. it boggles the mind.

tv stations going HD will probably buy hundreds if not thousands of these. the work flow will be rock solid for pc and mac by the time scarlet is released because its already being battled tested for the RED ONE and the work flow is going to pretty much be the same. we might get fan films that are indistinguishable from the real deal. its really a great time to be getting into this.

As mentioned previously I've been at least a year into the future to test Scarlet out for my fellow forum users. I can say with confidence it will be released on March 25th, 2009 at precisely 9:01 AM PST. :red_bandana:
