Actually my military experience has nothing to do with colors - if anything it would have the opposite effect and all my post would try to "blend in" as much as possible...

I'm technical & creative director for DERYL Group and the principal DOP there and I found using color when explaining both creative and technical issues to my team-mates makes life that much more easier. I damn to hell all the "standard" whiteboards that comes with black, red and blue markers.

This would be the "minimum" to make me happy:

I can't believe we have spent the last 10 years going through the digital transition and these issues are even worth bringing up. I can sum it up in five words: It's all about the acquisition. You've been watching dvd's for years. Did they shoot them on mp2's? When will the world regain balance and this issue be laid to rest as it should have been years ago...

Anyway, 5k will only be good for IMAX until they up the resolution on digital projectors, or start printing 70mm again.
    agreed!

you're right, they're going to skip right to 8K

"8K Television System “Ultra High Defenition TV” is the TV technology of our dreams. Super Hi-vision (Ultrahigh-Definition Wide-Screen System with 4000 Scanning Lines) is the technology developed by NHK Science & Technical Research Laboratories that delivers the images so real that viewers feel as if they were actually at the site of the broadcast and find themselves attempting to touch what’s on the screen. The large, wide-screen video images with the resolution equivalent to that of gravure printing strike viewers as a fresh surprise. The cutting-edge technology captures the attention of the international community."

"Super Hi-Vision, also known as Ultra High Definition Video, UHDV, Ultra High Definition Television, UHDTV and UHD is an experimental digital video format, currently proposed by NHK of Japan. The new format with a resolution of 7,680 × 4,320 pixels is four times as wide and four times as high (for a total of 16 times the pixel resolution) as existing HDTV, which has a maximum resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels. According to the Yomiuri Shimbun, the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications will be starting a public-private partnership to develop technology for UHDV in the hopes of setting an international standard for Super Hi-Vision in addition to broadcasting with it beginning in 2015."

Jim J said that a pair of Scarlets could be configured into a 3D rig. I imagine that Epic might be able to do that as well. Move over Imax!

The 5k Mysterium X which is at the heart of Epic is going to be an upgrade to Red next summer so Red will have more rez and more dynamic range. Red will then be a true 4k. Epic is likely to have a more powerful FPGA along with the lighter body and wireless control.

Actually, I'm pretty sure Jim (or someone else at RED) said the Red One sensor upgrade will be the same resolution as the current sensor, but with better dynamic range.
