    Good point.

Frustrating thing is I'M flying to CA in August and again in December, why couldn't it go down then? Could have done whole thing for $80 shipping instead of $600!

    Jim,
I printed the 3 (i believe) sheets that RED wanted completed and put them in a clear wallet which was accessible on the outside of the camera box. I spoke with the Auspost staff member before and from what I remember is was very straightforward.

mine cost 250 in shipping from east coast US to west coast US...but i also insured it through carrier... so 600 from the other side of the world doesn't seem too excessive for costs if its insured...

Okay, so in the end I went with Australia Post Express Courier International, full tracking and signature, will be there in 3-4 days and is covered by my regular camera insurance. Cost - $179. Not bad!
Yes, I am potentially risking a $500 deductible if I need to use my insurance, but it's better than pre-paying the extra $200 and then not using it. My guess is there's a 96% chance it will show up safe and sound. That's a scientifically sound percentage I just made up.

I can certainly understand why some opt for next morning super early guaranteed delivery to get their camera back as soon as humanly possible, but coming from this far I wouldn't be able to plan or rely on it being back too soon regardless of the shipping method, so I'm very happy with the result.

This is why Im seriously considering skipping a 10K dragon upgrade on Scarlet and just buy new.

Well that worked surprisingly well. I sent my Epic Friday via Aus Post and it was delivered to RED Monday in the US. Fed Ex wouldn't have got it there any faster and was about $200 less.

So anyone looking to ship cameras back, and have their own insurance, this is a very good alternative.
