I have to send my Epic back to Red for a power fault. For the Epic in the small EPIC-X case Fed Ex want $325 one way, and DHL aren't far behind. 4.5KG

Anyone worked out a more cost effective way to send their Epic in for repair from Australia?

    Thanks!

Hi Jim. I would be interested to know as well . Lack of mow local support is a real issue. Thus is the reason some people dont go for red in oz!

This is the first time in six years owning 3 different Red cameras, so I can't say it's been a particular problem, but yes, it adds to the grief when you start with $600 worth of shipping before your repair is quoted.

    Hey Jim,

I actually sent mine back Auspost, was $180 tracked and I double checked that my normal insurance covered it which they did.

Hi Jon, thanks for that, sounds like a good option!

Imagine it took longer, maybe 4-7 days instead of 2, but if time isn't of the essence then good deal.

I'll check with my insurer and see what the deal is.

    Thanks Jon

Hey Jon, one more thing -

Beyond filling out the RETURN FOR REPAIR forms from Red, did you have to do anything special to not get hit with Duty/GST again when it came back, or was that all good?

Yeah it took 5 days I think, but it was over a USA holiday so that may have slowed it. Mine was sent back for an upgrade and I got flogged the full $17,500 not the $9,500 for GST. I believe I can claim the extra GST back through my company but will see at the end of the financial year

Hi Jon, thanks for the additional info.

So are you saying you ended up paying GST twice, once when it first arrived and then again after you sent it back for the upgrade? This is what I'm hoping to avoid with documentation. Red got me to fill out a form called REPAIR AND RETURN, which I'm hoping will help.

But like you, I would get the GST back so if I do get charged it's just a matter of time before I break even on it.

Checked with my insurance and I am covered for shipping. Great tip, thanks for that!
