$2,000 gets you Cineform HD. It is PC only at this point and requires a fast quadcore and a Xena card and makes 4K files that edit natively in Premeire.
Yes you have to convert your R3D files but the conversion process is fast, about 10 FPS. It maps pixel for pixel in 4K so converting to 4K Cineform is faster than down converting to a 2K Cineform file. It does not read QuickTime proxies so you can convert everything you shoot or you can use Quicktime on a Mac to look at the proxies and cull out all the takes you think you may need in your edit and then only convert them to save space and perhaps time. But the most fantastic part is that you can really edit 444 4K in real time, using the xena card to output to an HD-SDI monitor. Edit, grade, color correct even use plug ins and effects. I sat through a lengthy demo of Red footage and was blown away. Of course there's always Scratch at 30K.
Yes, I actually saw all with my own eyes, incuding what Jay said.
Also,
You can color correct, assign it as metadata, and play it back real time.
Amazing

Hey Sheltie!
Sheltie I have almost climaxed can you help me out...Tell me more!
Get the fuck outta here...Did you guys see this with your own eyes and get a peek what was really under the hood?
I am still trying to digest it. It was posted in 'Crimson available for Download' thread. Does anyone know anything more. :holloween:Originally Posted by Shawn Nelson
so did Crimson, as far as FCP and Color are concerned, get completely outdated today? They told me in the booth that you can edit the proxies and then Color will automatically conform back to the R3Ds for grading and output.
Well I am pouring myself a glass of wine now, I make a toast to us all here and at NAB and this great news! Thanks for bringing it to us...
Cheers Boys!
We definitely need some more info on Cineform HD. There is no info at the moment on Cineform website.
