  1. #1 Black Balancing
On the Phantom HD which also a CMOS sensor one of the most important things to keep an eye on is black balance (also known as Curretnt Session Reference). It's advised to do one of these as regularly as possible (even every shot wouldn't hurt), but particularly when frame rate, resolution etc. is changed. It helps get rid of banding an noise issues. Just wondering if this would be advised on the Red too?

It's only necessary to do the Black Shading Calibration once after each firmware update.

the phantom is a different beast all together, part if their offset corrections happen in quadrants ( or halves ) and its pretty visible when things go south. In my experiences with the phantom its something we did after every shot, the good thing is that the cal is pretty quick.

Thanks for setting my mind at ease, be nice not to have to BB all the time! With Phantom it's drummed into you as such a big deal that if you haven't done it within the last few seconds you start getting twitchy and imagining image problems!

Steve I know how you feel it was drummed into me to black balance with the Sony F900 every shoot.
