Anyone have any experience with the New York Film Academy Australia on the Gold Coast? A friend's daughter is looking at it and asked my advice.

Looks like a 1-year intensive course where they make short after short on the Village Roadshow backlot.

Anyway, if anyone has any options, would love to hear them so I can best advise my mate.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    hey Jim

I applied there for a teaching job a while ago, its a small course but seems quite intense and good, small classes, they are right next door to panavision on the studio lot. The cinematography teacher is Nino Martinetti, very good guy. The course is quite intense in the way that EVERY student has to shoot I think 12 - 15 short films per semester...so quite hands on, plus they get to check in on the big productions that happen at the studios and they get people in for workshops and master classes.

Thanks for the feedback Dominik, sounds pretty good for someone who wants to get their hands dirty and get a lot of experience in a short time.

Reading up on it my take is it is a bit light on the technial side and heavy on the "just get on with it" side of things.

Jim: for someone with absolute no experience to get into it, I reckon she could do worse than at NYFAC, remember its just a one year intense course....if she really enjoys it she can always go on to do a proper bachelor or masters degree at a university filmschool later. I think the technical side will come....honestly if youre forced to shoot 4-6 movies per semester yourself...you need to figure it out plus they have a technical guy there that goes through all the gear with the kids before they use them.
