If Apple had a portable device that was even close to being able to do this, that would be an option.

So Lucas, that was playing back fully debayered 4K from an R3d at 4K on a 4K monitor?

That could be a game changer for my DIT cart.

(i know a lot of 4K's in one sentence)

Derek - see my post in the Dragon section that breaks down exactly what was shown. "Fully debayered" could mean many things. Just want to be clear. :)

Who is Panos Panay and what is the significance of Carbon Dragon at a Microsoft event? Is Microsoft targeting Redusers now as the main market for the Surface? Speaking of a niche marketing.... ;)

The first gen Surface Pro was a pretty incredible device in its own right. My biggest issue with it was the sub-par 4-5 hour battery life. Thanks to Haswell it looks like they have gone ahead and brought it up to 7-8 hours while at the same time significantly improving performance. I would almost say that it is too powerful for a tablet though. Maybe something like the Vaio Tap 11 or next-gen Aspire P3 offers a better balance of performance and portability. They do offer a slightly slower Y series CPU, but that enables to get it down to a iPad/Android tablet-like chassis.

Either way, there are options in the Haswell Windows 8.1 tablet market.

Here's the on-demand video for the event: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/news/...faceevent.aspx. Skip to 14.10 for the Dragon bit.
