    Chaps,

I'd like to clarify when exactly the camera is meant to reset the reel counter to zero (and how I can do it manually).

For some reason my counter just keeps clocking up and doesn't reset from day to day. I am having to force reel every mag change which is getting rather annoying. (I'm on 15.2.1.7)

Also, if when I've backed up my red - drive I delete my media on my mac ands send the mag back to the camera will it re format upon insertion (obviously with an ok prompt) to save me going into the system/media/format controls? Is it better to not delete on a mac and let the camera do everything?

    Thanks in advance,

Ideally, in my opinion, the reel counter would never automatically reset. Only when the user instructs it. On a shoot that goes for an extended period, it's important to have unique reel numbers.

The reel number resets to zero when you change the Project Frame Rate...

Thanks Stuart. So for now at the top of a new job I can say, switch to a 24 fps project and then back again to 25fps (which I want to use) and I'll be back to zero. Seems a bit of an odd way to do it but at least I can be at zero again.

Do you concur regarding the format on camera only? I'd love a quicker initilise and format for the drives than going through all the menus. Any chance of a short cut like the dismount one?

    Regards

I didn´t pay too much attention to it, but it occured to us that we had the same Reel Number within a shot of 18 Cards (with a turnaround of 6 cards) We always stayed at 25fps frame rate just switched between 2K for varispeed and 4K for 25fps. CF Cards where formatted in camera.
How can that happen, and how can one avoid/override the wrong Reel number ?

    thanks Manuel

That was happening with earlier versions of build 14 and 15, should have been fixed now.

IMO, Its much safer and better practice to always set the force reel number manually. I know that we need to save as much time as we can setting up camera, but its just a good habit. I have noticed that the reel # doesn't stay consistent if your not manually doing it.

Maybe its not keeping consistent because i erase the cards/drives before i take them back to the camera. the camera could be reading the old mag log on the drives to create a new reel # for the new drive.

    Does that Sound Right?

As of build 15 v2.1.7 I was able to go through a 2 day, 70 card shoot (using multiple resolutions and varispeed, but all with project framerate of 23.98) with completely consistent card numbers. We erase and format the cards with Disk utility inside OSX before they go back to the camera.

I would like to get the camera to recognize when a new card is inserted again and to ask if I want to format...I know that was removed, but I'm not sure why...a full on autoformat when I insert a new card is bad bad bad, but ASKING me what I want to do when I insert a new card (format/don't format) is fine (and preferred).
