I actually don't think Ultra Primes are sharper than Sigmas. Especially at T2. Remember the Sigmas are T1.4, and already very sharp. At T2 they are probably close (or maybe even equal) to Master...

That plate and cable are good places to start.

If it's been working fine till now, then it could be something new added to power chain (cable), or something vulnerable to fail because lots of use...

Yes S16 glass will cover Gemini 2K, they are the right match, but I think you'll find a lot of that glass isn't very sharp - at least wide open.

We got burned once shooting S16 Super Speeds wide...

But nice advantage for Gemini is the sensor is taller (18mm vs 16mm), and custom tailored for shooting anamorphic. Outside of Monstro, its the only RED sensor that gets this tall.

Whatever "digital" look may be there is easily graded out. What's nice about Komodo is what can't be graded out - namely global shutter, noise, etc - Komodo appears to handle really well.

It won't work. It's more than a mount issue. I believe the lens port / internal sensor area where the Revolva protrudes back into is a slightly different shape on DSCM1, so it literally won't fit.

BTW something anecdotal. We did a shoot last week with a Komodo mixed in with Epic Dragons. In a studio with a grey cyc.

Our colorist noticed something right off the bat with Komodo - the grey was...

It's a good camera, my father has several and uses them on docs. They are quite popular still in Spain, on jobs that can't afford Alexa, etc.

I agree with most of this, but not new 8K Helium. I think they are staying with the Komodo pixel pitch. So that would be:

6K Komodo S35+ (what we have now)
8K Komodo Vista Vision (two Bodies -...

Christopher your concerns all make sense.

If I was a betting man, I'd bet the following:

RED releases at least TWO DSCM3 cameras with a larger Komodo Sensor.

One is perhaps $20K, and is an...

Haha, I hear you. Larger Komodos' are exciting to think about right? It's hard not to think that deep within the halls of RED they aren't mulling all this over. I mean it's just impossible to ignore...

Fascinating. Love how well the Komodo image holds up at higher ISOs, especially at a chroma level. The color fidelity really holds, and when there is noise its quite fine and consistent (which makes...

A friend has a Komodo and is already reporting the AF is no joke. Have to imagine it's only going to get better. I also have a strong feeling both AF and Global Shutter are going to be the defining...

I dunno, maybe he's busy? He owes us nothing. People have things to do. He did a lot already, far as I'm concerned.

He shot some test footage. He graded it. He posted stills. And he did a write...
