...On the upside, it means that it doesn't matter what aspect ratio you shoot at, you just letterbox (or pillarbox) it as appropriate.

The standard aspect ratios for film prints were most recently 1.85:1 and 2.40:1 (2.39:1 is basically the same thing but they standardised on 2.40:1, in practice you probably can't tell the...
It's not true of all digital cameras, it depends on the sensor. The Alexa studio for example, is more geared towards anamorphic shooting. It's about the native aspect ratio of the sensor, just like...
I think it's going to be huge in music videos where you don't have to worry about sound and the finished video is quite short so the added data from uncompressed raw isn't too much to handle. That...
8 hours is supposedly the medical minimum. Couldn't put a number on it in my case because my sleeping is often quite messed up sadly tho it does seem to be slowly getting better as my life is on an...
6k is not a lot for a full red package BTW! :)
Also 48gb SSD's are not presently compatible with the Red One except in 2k mode at the highest compression rating.
In which case you are probably...
...and I have the shoulder dovetail for sale without the base plate of course! :)

I don't get the people here who seem to feel the need to defend red cameras in relation to a canon 5d!
It's crazy.
Like I say I can make lots of arguments why my Kodak zx1 is way better than the...
I don't think anyone is comparing it to the Alexa or Red are they? I think I may have compared the Red One to a banana a few posts back but...
I would remind you of the story of the singing pig....
I think I'm agreeing that there is a loss of resolution as compared to shooting flat, not a gain! ;)
Now you have confused me!
I only get those two options? (Maybe you should stand for...
Only just worked out what you meant. I thought you made a mistake with the images. The anamorphic modes on the red are a different aspect ratio to the normal modes, so as to give the correct aspect...
You need to unsqueeze the video not shrink it. If you shrink the video you are losing the vertical information. You won't gain resolution from the anamorphic lens but you won't lose any like you do...
Well you won't be gaining resolution by using anamorphic lenses on the red camera but by shrinking it, like you appear to be doing, you are losing resolution, not on the horizontal plane but on the...
You appear to be reducing the height, thus losing vertical resolution from the original, instead of expanding the width.
I'm not sure why you would want to rescale twice like the other poster...
The videos shot with the magic lantern raw video hack seem to be finally moving on from pictures of dogs/cats/flowers and windows:
...
Cheaper, so less of an issue if it gets smashed up or stolen. (could be used as a crash cam on big shoots?)
Has the option of a non raw workflow for faster turnarounds.
Can use lighter...
Talent isn't really the significant factor in things. You only have to glance about the world to see that. It helps but you need a lot of other things first.
The world is not a meritocracy.

I did a round up of some of the video's on this subject for Red Shark:

It's early days for this...
Totally agree with you Adam!
I really don't know why anyone would feel insecure about a canon DSLR in relation to a RED camera!
Probably people who have never really explored the issues with...
Jelly on a plate, wibble wobble wible wobble...
I've seen it on a whip pan and it fitted in the category of "Yikes!"

I'm preety sure it's pre live view, as they have been trying out turning the live view off to try and increase the speed of things. I think it's also ahead of the 422 YUV, as until the RAW...
Interesting. So Super16 has the same level of depth of field as Super 35mm and a Full Frame camera gives the same amount of depth of field as a Red One then, it's just a smaller image area.
A 50mm...
You could be onto something in terms of it being a bit of both. Heres a list of the pre-set resolutions:
static int resolution_presets_x[] = { 640, 720, 960, 1280, 1320, 1920, 2048, 2560, ...
Or come to think of it, maybe you read my article and I really confused you by saying that it is a "full frame" camera that can do RAW which is a bit of a pointless thing to have said given that...
