Here's one thing I don't want to see here: identity politics. You, Daniel, have brought this here. Please refrain? I'm not against you or anyone. But we don't need that kind of thing here or...
  3. Hand-held video of an insect with a 60mm macro lens on an Olympus E-M1 III

Perhaps of some interest. It's not perfect, but it's amazing what you can do without a gimbal. I imagine that gimbals do have a place - I am not an expert camera operator. But if we're going to use...

I was just thinking that this morning. Small set-ups, large set-ups, stereo set-ups, multicam set-ups, and so on.

If I were a scientist I'd buy one just because of its global shutter. That's very...

Whoa man. The Akeley is beautiful. The others are a joke! I didn't know that Universal made their own cameras. What a different world it was.

I'm not a Red owner but I can say a few things that you may find useful.

I've heard very good things about the Leica SL and the Sony A9 as video cameras. One guy said that he never grades his SL...

I'm surprised that mechanised cameras weren't already developed by 1912. We've had spring-powered clocks since I think the 18th century.
  9. The world's first all-metal movie camera from 1912, the B&H 2709

This is a relatively modern looking camera given that it's from 1912. Sure, it's hand cranked and has a primitive parallax viewfinder, but it's surprisingly capable.

Sorry to hear the sad news. Camera rentals must be quite a fun industry, I bet.

From what I have seen, I concur. Although we can fairly say that they are both great in that department. It's a choice between good and better, not bad and good. And Red did it without dual gain....

I think I might like The Strings - if anything it's a way to see full projects from fellow members of this site. I like the poster and the vague premise, so we will see. Let me know where I can watch...

I liked it! I'm not into horror but this was more paranormal, which is my cup of tea. Horror is too scary, supernatural is too trite. Paranormal allows nuance and poses more questions than answers.

Very interesting. So, Mike, if I read you correctly, you can do internal RAW at 4K, while recording 5K FF 1080 via SDI/HDMI at the same time? I can see this being quite useful for commercial work,...

Agreed. Sony, I think, is taking a leaf from Apple's book. With some exceptions, Apple won't announce anything until the product is ready to ship. Sometimes they are late, and they have to announce a...

    Bitcoin and crypto

None of this is investment advice. I have no business telling you what to do with your money. But, if you're like me, it's a good time to start accumulating Bitcoin and other crypto coins.

I think that they both are great. The Alexa sensor seems to have this weird green filter over it, which would explain why underexposed footage has that tint. And so because I know this, I would have...

It's technically possible for another manufacturer to use a Red sensor. But Red would never use a Canon sensor. They've been behind in sensor tech forever, at least as far as their stills cameras go....

  21. Red sensors have industry leading DR without dual gain, so I have to ask...

Why does Red not implement dual gain? My guess, if I had to have one, would be that dual gain only gives you an extra couple of stops, and Red decided that it wasn't worth it. I can't think of any...

I'm impressed that the free version outputs to UHD. I thought it was limited to HD. Great stuff from Blackmagic.

I don't think that the target market for Komodo will be concerned with AF. Or IBIS. IMHO.

I got to thinking what I would do if I were Sony. It's actually simple: stick with 4-5K, focus on DR, fast...

I think you do have the right to be OCD about your equipment. A critical customer is a good customer!

But I don't think that using all your savings to buy a camera is wise, either. Just IMHO.
