I'm gonna say that comes down to taste and I couldn't disagree more.

Shims aren't changing the parfocalness of the lens, just adjusting back focus. One would hope they come correctly calibrated from the factory. Make sure your camera has it's FFD set correctly or you...
I would think the MX would be noisy as hell at 3200 iso. Is that the look you are going for?
Nick
Was it your camera? My point is if it's not yours, you have no idea how it's been treated.

Just for the record, I owned two epic dragons, never had a problem with them. I just wrapped a feature in FL about 3 weeks ago. Some of the most awful conditions I have ever worked in. Ever. I have...
Absolutely. My response was just to the suggestion that lenses that covered 6k dragon wouldn't cover 5k gemini, when in reality you are equally screwed ;-)
Nick
Gemini at 5k and dragon at 6k are basically the same sized chip.

It's mainly a matter of taste, but I like the color out of the box better on Gemini, just feels more natural. To quote a DIT nerd friend "The pixels are more gooder on Gemini". It certainly is nice...
Both good, I prefer the Gemini.

I tend to use a 135mm and extension bellows when I need to get extremely close. The challenge is in finding the sweet spot in iris where you have useable DOF, but aren't killing your image with...
I thought that was totally kick ass ;-) Well done.

Really depends on if you need to ride or not. If it's just a slider like a dana dolly, then raising the track is fine, You start to run into huge issues with manpower and material if you need to ride...
I own a nano with the M motor and find it has plenty of oomph and works well. Mine is practically brand new, comes with the d tap to nano motor, N motor, and M motor. I own a couple of bartechs and...
I have one of these rehoused in PL mount. It's a lovely looking lens. I'm a big fan.

Sounds like a 1" tube camera lens.

Supers and standards don't cover any of the biggerish formats like 6k dragon, and 5k gemini, I think that has a lot to do with their loss in popularity. And to be honest, I never liked them very much...
I've done this with an 8x10 camera. Your biggest challenge is the ground glass. Noticeable grain, extreme light fall off. If you like that, then great. There are solutions to this however.

I have had no problems with just gelling modern daylight LEDs to 3200. I've used both rosco and lee full cto. I've been very happy with the results. Mixing the Gelled LEDs with tungsten practicals...
Is there a reason you can't just measure from the pl flange to the olpf? It's a pretty straight forward procedure. If you don't have an apropriate measuring tool, this should get you there -

Just to be that old guy.... Easy rigs are fucking dumb. The only thing they are good for is if you have to stand in the same place forever shooting hand held. By definition, that is a dumb shot. The...
I certainly wouldn't go that far.
Take a look at modern. They have all the stuff to build whatever you want. Customize away!

oops. I see...
Price on ebay sucked, plus you had to ship them, and they were heavy and delicate. Mine went in a dumpster. I did have to track down like a 15" crt for a project last year. Was ridiculously...
I threw away about that many of those.
It's certainly done, I don't do it, because it's an ergonomic nightmare. Even if the camera is perfectly balanced your arms are up to high. That's basing it on the premise that good hand held form...
