Hey Blair, this is just a guess on my part, as I don't own a RED, but I would guess what you're seeing is entirely correct.
If the X-track comprises the first 50% or 25% or 12.5%, etc of the...

I had a chance to see the dark knight projected in 15perf 70mm recently at the Irvine Spectrum. I believe what this says about 8k if you're middle of the theater or closer. Even real IMax and a...
Got it, makes sense that that's where you gain. I bet it looks beautiful, thanks.
This sounds awesome Jarred!
Question, will the possible frame rates see a significant change from what I guess is a pretty big difference in data rate? Am I right in guessing that files of the...
Hugely agree, Jeff you're info is always timely and on point. Thank you for years of quality posts!
1,000 Terabytes is a petabyte: http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2012/05/tape-lives-supercomputer-to-be-built-with-380pb-of-tape-storage/ .
1,000 of those is an Exabyte:...
Here's hoping they back it up with a decent bitrate.
Jarred, what projector was used at the tropicana party just now? The red ray sounds amazing
I've seen it, I think it was a commercial maybe? I can't remember the source but I'll let you know if my memory kicks in. Good Luck

That's just plain awesome
Hey Andrew,
When I compared the 2k MPEG4 image to the 2k(1920 anamorphic)H.264 image I it looked like this.
Pretty close to pure black. What I gather from this is the 2k MPEG4 video is no...
Thanks Justin, much appreciated!
This is a great thread and a topic I’m really interested in. Up until now I think my posts have been a bit off-the-cuff and non-rigorous; sorry ‘bout that. I’m going to try to offer more evidence...
Lol, no worries dude, lemme make a list. I'll update this post asap.

I ran a number of tests with 1080p h.264 vs 2k mpeg4 using the Timescapes 1440p trailer as a source. If you compare screen shots, edges looked slightly sharper (if there was no motion, or...
Looks good. It's Mpeg4 though, not Mpeg4 Part 10, aka h.264. I also felt like a huge nerd typing that, lol.
I'm not talking about h.264
2.5k is a corrupted mess, but it does TRY to play it. 2/3rds of the screen is green while 1/3 is just a bunch of random macro blocks.
I'll mess with 2.5k a bit more since I was hoping 4k mpeg4...
After taking a look at Justins file I have a 2k version of Tom's trailer at 50 megabit up and running with sound on the iPad 3 in CineXPlayer. It looks good but the reason it works is I'm using...
Yeah man, we're screwed lol.
Awesome
Yeah, if you have 2048x1536 working, details please! The only outside the box technique I can think of would be some form of HTML5 Streaming.
Brian, thanks for the info, that helps. I have an iOS dev account, are there any white papers or anything that you've seen with more info like this?
Les, unfortunately no, CineXPlayer seems...
Got the iPad yesterday and tried to throw on Tom's 2.5k Timescapes trailer as a good demo for folks to oooohh and awwww over, but after a fair amount of testing it seems to be limited to 1080p as a...
