Just gathering information. I might be DP'n a feature starting in September. Production (Germany based company) is planing on shooting some scenes in Houston Texas. This is a privately financed project, so we're trying to keep things small, but never the less high quality. It's a action movie.

the last gig I did with them was a tech-crew of 20, one truck full of light and van full of camera gear. Mostly steadicam (I do that part too) and some light crane shots. European style shooting, so a Gaffer shouldn't get mad at me if I dare move a light on my own:-).

I usaly get the final script a month prior to shooting, so I can't say much what is required in Houston, but maybe some general questions can be answered:

-Equipment rental (camera / lights)
-Crew (everything except Director, DP)
-extras
-cartering
-Any Houston particalar problems we could encounter (permissions, special Taxes ect.)?

Scarlet Same Day Edit Wedding. It's so simple.

This past weekend I had a wedding where the client asked us for a 'Same Day Edit.' At first I didn't want to take any risks and thought I'd leave my Scarlet in its case this time around, but after giving it some thought, I figured I'd take the chance and see what a 4K Same Day Edit would be like. It was a breeze.

Winner Best Cinematography - ILLUSION - Beverly Hills Film Festival

I am proud to announce that we have won the award for Best Cinematography at the Beverly Hills Film Festival.

This one came as a bit of a surprise to me as the competition was pretty damn stiff.

I was off doing a bit of shooting and arrived about 15 minutes after the award was handed out, but I'd like to thank Paul Ellington (who had a screenplay in the festival) for accepting the award for me, and also saying a few nice words. Thanks Paul!

Congratulations to the whole team. We'll certainly be doing some work together in the future.

I'd also like to thank my 1st AC Kevin Barry all the hard work. Tight shooting schedule and we needed all the hustle to get every setup in.

Production Details:
camera = Red Scarlet-X #316 "Skully"
format = REDCODE Raw 6:1 - 4K/24fps
glass = Various modified still lenses and a Duclos Cine-Modded Leica 60mm f/2.8 R.

Shooting Notes:

I self operated (I'm one of those DPs) and shot mostly between f/1.8-f2.8. Some interesting personal highlights include a 30 foot wild focus pull, riding a sled during our blue screen shoot to mimic the chaos of falling through the sky, rigging a vertical slider move to "lift off" into the clouds, and wild pulls with actors up in harnesses swinging through the air on blue screen. Towards the end of production I also created a matte painting for the hole that "Laura" decides to return to. Fun stuff.

Really big thanks to Jim, Jarred, Brent, Nick, and the rest of the Red Team. Thank you for making a complete digital cinema camera system and one I prefer to shoot on no less.
