Some quotes:

"While not a major topic of discussion, the Apple chief told Politico that Apple's upcoming domestically-made computer will not be a new product, but a revision on an existing machine."

""We've been working on this for a long time, and we were getting closer to it. It will happen in 2013," Cook said in an interview with Bloomberg. "We're really proud of it. We could have quickly maybe done just assembly, but it's broader because we wanted to do something more substantial.""

The last comment really seems to go towards a Mac Pro, about not wanting to do it quickly, but doing something more substantial.

For 150 dollars (or 79 dollars upgrade pricing from SliceX) you can have a great key framing, mask and rotoscoping tool right within your NLE, with the release of Coremelts Slice X with Mocha Tracker.

I am not affilitated with Coremelt, btw, just glad of seeing this possibilities in FCPX. For Color Correction and other work, this can do wonders, and seems like a very powerful and affordable tool in the toolbox. Demos have been impressive so far, but haven't got the chance to use it yet.

http://www.coremelt.com/products/sli...-by-mocha.html

If I had this tool a half a year ago, it would have saved me from a lot of manual keyframing inside Motion. Glad to see this happening.

I'm trying to figure out how to work with multiple channels.
We have 8 channels recorded, each on a separate file. 90% are time synced the rest are slated.

How do I easiest import and sync these with audio.
They way I do now
- Import each 8 files into FCPX
- I sync the 8 files into one file. A compound clip I guess "8Channel_Compound"
- I Then I create a new compound clip with the video and the "8Channel_Compound"

Now I have the video and 8 channels synced. But it makes me nervous to have this tree of compound clips, I don't think I'm doing this right.

Questions
- Should I merge the 8 channels into 1 audio file outside final cut? I got recommended not to do this
- I just got Pluraleyes but haven't tried it yet. Would this make this project easy?
- Any other ideas to how I should do it?

Any quick pointers would be great, try to deliver a rough cut tomorrow.
Best
/Andreas

I have just run into something I've never seen before. I just had a client send me a FCPX project with footage from a RED One shot in all different sizes, 4K 3K and 2K. It has a main storyline and a secondary storyline, I relinked the footage to my drive, the secondary storyline relinked just fine retaining the correct image sizes. The main storyline clip, is reading as 1080p not 4K as the clip in the event viewer says it's linked to. I have never seen anything like this. Is it possible to fix this error. He edited it in FCPX 10.0.8 same version as mine. I don't want to have to re-edit this clip as its cut up in sections. I'm only in X to relink and send to Davinci Resolve. Any thoughts and ideas is greatly appreciated.

I'm a Premiere guy but a shoot I did last week was being edited by someone else in FCPX and I just got off the phone with the client and he was rather unhappy about all the hassle he'd had with his editor in FCPX getting the material into the system to the degree they could start editing. Apparently it took a day and a half to be up and running. Was a one day shoot. About an hour of interview at 4khd and then GV and cutaways.

He now wants to shoots on DSLRs instead. :(

As a quick test I just installed the FCPX trial and the Red FCP installer and then opened it and imported a clip. After a couple of minutes of it doing its thing it all seemed to play back fine

Anyone got any ideas why a seasoned FCPX editor might be having such problems with the footage? I was always led to believe this is the single best thing about it?

Would be great to be able to offer a cast-iron solution for future jobs. I wonder has anyone made an idiot-proof bullet point list of the best practice procedures and settings to get best/fastest results?

Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions...

publicly state whether or not they were killing the mac pro?

with all of the financial success in their iOS devices, you'd think that they might show some respect the professional community with some information that would allow (those of us waiting on new machines) to make an informed decision on our future workstations..

after all.. if we, the professional community, constitute such a small percentage of their profit margins... why not just be upfront and honest with us?...

"guys... we don't make enough money to produce a professional machine anymore."

"you know what?... Jon Ivey doesn't like the aesthetic design of the tower... so we're getting rid of it."

"we just don't care about real users anymore... we want everyone surfing the internet (without flash enabled) from their couch... in their underwear... on ipads."

I had one a few years ago and basically just stopped using it because it was too slow to ever be convenient. Then I hear a lot of bad stuff on these forums, culminating on Jarred's post saying he'll never use them again.

I've heard that some of their newer products are winning people back, and when I was given some used, large internal drives I decided to swap them into my drobo for shits and gigs. After installing the 4 firmware updates released over the last 2+ years since I'd last used it, I was shocked at how much faster the drives were working then I remember (the old ones, before putting the new ones in).

Anyone have changed feelings about drobos these days?

Thanks! :)

Just finished our first 4K MADE EASY training day ... man, did we cover some ground in four hours, or what ... my head is still spinning.

Kudos to Sam Mestman for having so much knowledge at his fingertips on Apple's FCP X and RED's EPIC workflow ... really dug under the hood on the power and functionality of FCP X and even then he didn't go into detail on half of the things he could have covered.

Lots of great questions from the attendees and some very good feedback at the end on how we can make the next training day even more valuable and useful.

We had the Eizo CG276 monitor and SEIKI UHD TV on display ... great combination of a very accurate color grading monitor ($2700) plus a beautiful looking 50 inch 4K client monitor ($1500) ... mix in a little BlackMagic 4K Extreme DeckLink ($995) and for around $5200 you have a totally viable 4K imaging backbone for your 4K grading and viewing pipeline.

Attendees were really impressed with the image quality of the calibrated SEIKI UHD TV .... as a client 4K monitor it's going to be pretty hard to beat.

We also demoed the ExaSAN range of RAIDs and SAN switches .... ran the Blackmagic disk speed test on the Windows Resolve machine and was getting 1100 MB/s write and 1300 MB/s read sustained throughput .... all from 12 x 3 TB drives .... at under $9k for 36 TB of super high speed storage, the ExaSAN PCIe express architecture offers tremendous value over comparable Fiber Channel based solutions.

All in all, a fascinating day ... 4K workflow made easy and 4K monitoring for $5k really starts to deliver on Jim's vision of 4K everywhere ....$5K is the new 4K takes on a whole new meaning!

Thanks to everyone who came along - see you at the 4K Master Class.

Cheers,
Neil

Sam Mestman from Lumaforge will be demoing the extensive 4k RED workflow capabilities Final Cut Pro X has to offer and explain why it's now just as easy to deliver in 4k as it is in 1080. He'll also be showing how FCPX can simplify as well as expand the traditional roles of the DIT, Assistant Editor, Editor, and colorist in an FCPX-Resolve pipeline to allow them to spend more time on the creative process, and less time on conforming/troubleshooting/banging your head against the wall. He'll take you from best practices for importing and grading your RED footage, to how to work with your metadata to speed up project prep, to taking advantage of some of FCPX's power features like the timeline index, all the way down to how FCPX integrates with Resolve for seamless delivery, regardless of resolution. FCPX has undergone an astonishing amount of development since it was first released, and is now a compelling option for professional DIT's, editors, and colorists, regardless of your workflow or deliverable.
